A NEW music festival will be added to Inverness’s already jam-packed programme of summer events next year.

Organised by the same team that puts together the popular Groove dance music event The Gathering will concentrate on more traditional sounds when it comes to the city’s Northern Meeting Park in June.

Billed as a celebration of the best of Scottish talent Tide Lines, a band that has already racked up more than three million steams for their singles online, have been confirmed as headliners.

They will be joined on Saturday, June 1 by The Vatersay Boys, Elephant Sessions and three-time winner of the Scots Singer of the Year title and BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Siobhan Miller.

The day will also feature performances by bands Torridon and Hò-rò, along with Moray musician Calum Mackenzie Jones’s The Trad Project.

The City of Inverness Youth Pipe Band will formally open proceedings in true Highland style.

Aiming for a family-friendly feel organisers say that, along with the musical line-up, the day will also include a showcase of the finest craft, food and drink suppliers from across the region.

Organisers say a full range of participants will be announced shortly, but bars at the event will feature exclusively Highland and Scottish-based craft suppliers, with the Black Isle Brewery providing the draft beer and Tomatin Distillery official whisky partner at the main bar.

Other breweries and distilleries will be showcased across the festival’s second bar.

Promoter Dougie Brown said: "We are delighted to be launching a brand-new city centre event for Inverness and hope The Gathering becomes a permanent fixture in the Scottish event calendar.

"We have a wealth of musical talent and incredible food and drink producers across the Highlands and Scotland and through The Gathering we aim to bring everyone together and celebrate the very best our region has to offer."

Tickets for the event went on sale today and are available online at www.skiddle.com or in person from Eden Court Theatre or the Ironworks in Inverness.
