Police Scotland eyesight spot checks snare three drivers in Inverness

MOTORISTS have been warned to make sure their eyesight is safe to drive after spot checks in Inverness found three people breaking the law.

Officers carried out 165 checks in the Highland capital today – with motorists challenged to read a number plate from 20 metres.

Police Scotland said the three who failed to do so “all had their licences revoked and will be reported”.

By law motorists have to be able to read a number plate at that distance and, if they can’t, that they wear glasses or contact lenses that enable them to do so.

Officers have urged motorists to ensure they are driving legally.

They added that “good advice and information” is available from the DVLA website.
