CITY hairdresser The Head Gardener’s commitment to helping good causes has been recognised with a national award.

The Church Street salon overcame stiff competition from salons and barbershops across the UK to win the fundraising category at the first ever Hair and Beauty Community Awards run by the National Hairdressers Federation and the National Beauty Federation (NHF/NBF).

The Head Gardner, which was opened by owner Alison McRitchie in 1988, has a long-standing commitment to supporting good causes, particularly Highland Hospice.

The firm is closely involved with several Hospice fundraising events, including Strictly Inverness and the annual Summer Sunflower Ball. Mrs McRitchie and her team also carry out voluntary work at the Hospice and have taken on individual fundraising challenges.

Mrs McRitchie found she was the winner of at a reception held at the Houses of Parliament last Wednesday.

The reception was also attended by MPs, including UK minister for small business Kelly Tolhurst. NHF/NBF president Agnes Leonard said: “We were blown away by the inspirational entries we received. The Head Gardener should be very proud of their achievement.”
