Police are investigating the theft of up to 90 per cent of lead from a rural primary school.

Aldourie Primary School, which serves pupils in the Dores and Scaniport area, was a victim of thieves who have taken the lead from the roof, with fears the school will now be prone to leaks.

Headteacher Louise Robertson directed the Courier to Highland Council for comment, but earlier made a plea on Facebook to find the culprits.

On a widely shared post, she said: "We have had a theft at Aldourie PS.

"Some selfish scumbags have stripped the lead off the ridge of the school roof, 80-90 per cent is gone.

"HC [Highland Council] will be out tomorrow morning, hopefully not too much damage inside with the rain.

"Police also informed. Last time this happened was eight years ago.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious over the last couple of days please let me know."

A council spokeswoman said: "There is an ongoing police investigation so we are not able to provide any details or comment at this stage."

A poice spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a theft from a primary school in Inverness around 5.50pm yesterday. Inquiries are ongoing."
