A 21-year-old Inverness man who repeatedly spat on officers after they had been called to an incident in the city's Carbisdale Gardens was jailed for six months.

Sentence had been deferred on Peter McCallum, of Mackay Road, at Inverness Sheriff Court last month for a background report.

He had pleaded guilty to assaulting three constables and struggling violently with them on May 18 this year.

But Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood was told that after McCallum had been bailed the following day after his first court appearance, he was seen outside his home about 8.30pm in breach of a 7pm to 7am curfew.

He was re-arrested but bailed again, only to break a bail condition ordering him not to approach a woman named in the order. The offence occurred on May 23.

McCallum admitted both bail breaches and had his sentence backdated to May 23 when he was remanded in custody.
