One of the co-founders of Highland Hospice has died.

Cecilia Bottomley (66) passed away at the facility in Inverness yesterday.

Her son Scott described her as a simply amazing woman, who was the heart of their family and a friend to everyone she met.

"Her spirit will live on with her wonderful grandchildren," he said.

"As a founder of the Highland Hospice it was fitting that in her final days she was looked after by the tremendous staff.

"A huge thank you to everyone who had sent a message to any of us, kind words seem hard to come by at the moment but mum always seems to bring the best out in people.

"We have set up a link so she can raise money one final time for the charity she started back in 1983. The hospice is facing a uncertain times so any money anyone can donate will be appreciated by them."

The crowdfunding page has generated more than £1100 so far.

A hospice spokesman said: "Our deepest condolences go to the family of one of our founders, Cecilia Bottomley, who has passed away.

"Cecilia and her friend Flora [Mackay] showed true grit and determination 37 years ago to establish Highland Hospice and cement our place in the hearts of the Highland community.

"Her ceaseless support ever since has been invaluable to us and she will be sorely missed.
