AN Inverness dental clinic has closed its doors unexpectedly leaving patients trying to find alternative provision.

The Academy Dental Practice in Union Street has remained closed this week after administrators were brought in.

It is owned by Syed Askari who stated he was closing due to circumstances beyond his control.

A spokesman for NHS Highland said the health authority had been made aware of the situation and was working on contingency plans.

"Following the sudden and unexpected closure of the Academy Dental Practice in Inverness earlier this week, NHS Highland is in discussion with local dental practices to make alternative arrangements for the future NHS dental care of the practice’s NHS patients," he said.

"Former patients of the practice will be advised of the arrangements over the course of the next week."

Should any former NHS patient of the Academy Dental Practice have a dental emergency they should contact the NHS Highland Dental Helpline on 08456 442 271.

The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 8.45am to 5pm. Patients who call the helpline outside these hours will hear a message advising them of what they should do if they have a dental emergency
