The Scottish School of Forestry hosted its popular family activity day on Saturday – 24 hours after staging a similar events for schoolchildren only.

The events gave people a chance to find out what goes on at the Scottish School of Forestry and take part in a range of fun activities based around forestry and wildlife management.

There were opportunities to build a bird box, take on the chainsaw challenge – building one, participate in bushcraft activities, find out about wood crafts, and learn how to identify trees, wildlife and bugs.

People could also visit the machinery shed and watch demonstrations.

More than 250 P3 pupils went to the schools event.

Amanda Bryan, the school’s interim head, said: “We’re always looking at new ways to engage young people in forestry and the range of careers available.”
