Single goal wins IRN Security Inverness and District Division One title

IRN Security completed a league and cup double in division one of the Inverness and District Amateur League thanks to a 6-0 victory over Ferrybache in their final fixture of the season at Bught Park.

But the IRN players had an anxious five-minute wait to see if title rivals ICM Electrical would finish above them on goal-difference.

ICM were 6-0 up against Innes CI and needed just one more goal to be crowned champions, but it never came and IRN were left to celebrate.

IRN manager Danny Murdoch said: “I thought we would need six or seven goals but it couldn’t have got much tighter than that.

“It could have been more, we missed a lot of chances. But I’m just glad we got over the line.”

IRN got off to a flyer with a Steve Sanderson goal after just 80 seconds Gary Cornish swept in a Sanderson cross in the 18th minute to double the advantage.

Sanderson was on the target again before the break. Cornish was on target early in the second half along with an own-goal to put IRN 5-0 up.Jordan MacDonald scored from the penalty spot late on

ICM Electrical just came up short in a 6-0 win against Innes CI at

Culloden. ICM were 1-0 up at the break but rattled in five goals without reply in the second half.

Sean Henstridge (2), Glenn Fell, Ross Tokely, Mikey Grant and Jonathan McLean got the goals.

ICM player/manager David Moffat said: “It was unfortunate to lose out by one goal, but that’s the way it goes sometimes – congratulations to IRN.”

Tomatin finished a close third after a 5-1 victory over North Kessock Hotel.

First half goals from Martin MacDonald and Martin Kennedy put Tomatin 2-0 up.

Donnie MacIver stretched the lead after the break before an own-goal pegged Tomatin back.But late goals from Calum MacLeod and MacIver rounded off a comfortable win.

Fortrose and Rosemarkie Union were relegated after a 3-2 loss to Balloan Compass.

Previously doomed Drakies PDG lost 4-3 to Escobar, with Craig Edwards scoring a late winner.
