FIVE men questioned by police investigating a serious sexual assault in south Belfast have been released on bail.

A total of six men were detained by the PSNI following a report of an assault in the Ormeau Road area in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports a number of students were among those detained.

It is also understood that the alleged attack happened in the Balfour Avenue area.

A PSNI spokeswoman said five of the six men arrested had been "released on bail pending further enquiries" on Thursday.

She added that the "sixth man arrested has been released unconditionally".
