A Lansing man was sentenced to probation for killing a rabbit in a microwave last year.

New York State Police arrested Seth A. Decker in October of last year after troopers said a woman told them Decker was angry after an argument where he said he would put her rabbit inside a microwave at a home on Lockerby Hill Road.

Troopers said another person saw Decker place the rabbit inside the microwave and turn it on. Authorities found the rabbit dead inside the microwave.

Decker was arrested and charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 4 and was sentenced Monday in Tompkins County Court.

Despite Tompkins County Assistant District Attorney Diane Lama's push in court for Decker to receive the maximum sentence of two years in state prison, the court opted to impose a sentence of five years' probation.
