Union University has hosted some of the biggest names in politics, religion and sports for its scholarship fundraisers over the years.

It announced on its website Tuesday morning it’s bringing one of the biggest names in Christian music to Jackson later this year when it hosts Chris Tomlin for a concert and interview for 22nd annual Union University Scholarship Banquet on Oct. 15.

“The Scholarship Banquet has tried to highlight people who have been influential in our culture, and Chris Tomlin is certainly someone who has impacted worship and people’s understanding of the Lord,” Union University President Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver said in the statement. “We’re grateful that we’re going to have an opportunity to hear from him and have him at Union this fall.”

Tomlin is known for such Christian contemporary and praise/worship standards as “Good Good Father,” “How Great is Our God,” “Jesus Messiah,” “Whom Shall I Fear” and “I Will Rise.”

Tomlin has sold more than 8 million albums and 11.3 million digital tracks with 16 No. 1 singles. He has won multiple Grammy, American Music, Billboard Music, Dove and BMI Songwriter of the Year awards, and his tours have sold out venues in major cities including New York City’s Madison Square Garden, the Forum in Los Angeles and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, among others.

Tomlin recently become one of only four artists to ever receive the Sound Exchange Digital Radio Award for more than 1 billion digital radio streams, joining Justin Timberlake, Pitbull and Garth Brooks in receiving that honor.
