Jacksonville police SWAT and crisis negotiators arrested a man accused of taking a child hostage during a six-hour stand-off that ended peacefully before dawn Sunday at a home on the Westside.

No injuries were reported, and no shots were fired during the stand-off that began just before midnight Saturday at a West Solandra Circle home, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office didn't identify the suspect who police said was taken into custody at 6:15 a.m. when he came out of the home with the child after taking with crisis negotiators.

Police said the incident began when a woman called about an altercation between her and the man. She said he had a gun, had her child and had threatened to harm her, the child and police, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Police located the man at a West Solandra Circle home and got a warrant for his arrest. SWAT and crisis negotiators began talking to him and persuaded him into surrendering peacefully. After he was arrested, several people came out of the house, the Sheriff's Office said.

The relationship between the man and woman was unclear, police said.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses in the ongoing investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
