A baby soaked in sweat and hot to the touch was what officers found Monday evening when they responded to an apartment complex in Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Xavier Barry Seymore, 26, of Alderman Road, has been charged with child neglect after the 5-month-old baby was found in a parked car in temperatures estimated to have been almost 90 degrees, according to his arrest report.

It was a 911 call from a neighbor that sent officers to the complex after being told the baby had been in the car for at least 30 minutes, the arrest report said.

Witnesses told police Seymore was seen holding the child in the car, possibly changing a diaper before putting him in the passenger seat, then going back into his apartment, the report said. Another witness said she parked next to Seymore's car and noticed it was locked with its engine off, windows rolled up and the baby inside.

Witnesses knocked on Seymore's apartment door to tell him the child was still in the car, the report said.

Rescue personnel took the baby to Wolfson Children's Hospital. But no further information was available on his condition or Seymore's relationship to the baby.
