Authorities have added a second-degree murder charge against the neighbor of a 54-year-old woman killed last week in her Jacksonville home, according to his jail listing.

On June 6 police arrested 24-year-old Darnell Eugene Johnson on a charge of criminal mischief after damaging the camera system in a Sheriff’s Office interview room. Wednesday the murder charge was added.

Late June 5 police were called to Shirley Lavern Blakely's home in the 2500 block of Beaverbrook Place near Mcduff Avenue where she died from multiple injuries. News stations reported a family member found her dying, and she pointed next door and said a neighbor's nickname before she died.

Shots also were fired at their home on June 2, according to a previous incident report. She told police at the time that she didn't know of anyone who would want to do them harm.
