Spots filled up rapidly Friday afternoon as the city of Jacksonville began registration for its summer camp programs.

The status of the summer camp programs had appeared uncertain earlier in the spring due to the coronavirus pandemic, but they are set to go ahead at more than a dozen sites throughout the city beginning on June 15.

Families are required to register for the camps online. The registration window opened at noon.

Because of social distancing regulations from the Centers for Disease Control, each camp is capped at 30 participants.

Several camps were already listed as full Friday afternoon, fewer than two hours after the beginning of registration.

The camps, for ages 6 through 12, are free to the public and run from June 15 to July 24 in a single six-week session.

Mayor Lenny Curry announced May 27 that the city was planning to reopen summer camps.
