News was out that Duck Donuts soon will be opening its first Jacksonville store at the Shoppes of Bartram Park. It offers handcrafted, made-to-order donuts like these at its Fairfax, Va. shop. A building permit was recently issued, but no opening date has been set. [Yelp.com/Eydie Q.]

Recently renovated, Woody’s Bar-B-Q of Ponte Vedra Beach has a new look, owners and an expanded role in the popular restaurant chain. The newly acquired corporate store — Woody’s Bar-B-Que of Ponte Vedra Beach — now will be the base for franchise training operations in addition to serving up the chain’s classic Southern barbecue. As part of the change in ownership, the Ponte Vedra location underwent a $100,000 renovation to reflect the brand design of the newer Woody’s Bar-B-Q restaurants, according to the company. A new Alice in Wonderland-themed restaurant is opening in the same historic building as Sweet Pete’s Candy in downtown Jacksonville. 10/Six Grille’s grand opening is Oct. 4 at 400 N. Hogan St. The restaurant with its full bar will offer “American-style eats with a slight New Orleans flare” in a “fanciful atmosphere that provides a nostalgic trip down the rabbit hole.” [Times-Union archives]

The Ferber Company based in Ponte Vedra Beach plans a 11,500 square foot developement including Panera Bread, Chipolte and Bento AsianKitchen & Sushi at Brooklyn Place along Riverside Avenue in Jacksonville. The city issued building permits in September for $1.78 million in construction costs on about an 1½ acres of land at adjacent 10 Riverside Ave. and 50 Riverside Ave. in the Brooklyn neighborhood. Construction is expected to be completed and the businesses open by summer 2020.
