Selection Process for Sub-Inspector of West Bengal Police
The recruitment to the post of Sub-Inspector of West Bengal Police will be carried out in following manner:
Preliminary Examination >> Physical Measurement Test (PMT) >> Physical Efficiency Test (PET) >> Final Combined Competitive Examination >> Personality Test
Candidates need to qualify each stage to jump over to the next one. The Preliminary exam is regarded as the screening examination. Have a look at the detailed selection procedure:
Preliminary Examination
The preliminary examination will act as a screening test for the candidates to get shortlisted for the Physical Measurement Test and Physical Efficiency Test. The questions asked in the preliminary examination will either be objective type (MCQ) written examination or a Computer Based online test (CBT). The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board reserves the right to decide on the mode of examination, depending on the number of applicants and other factors.
Note: Marks secured by candidates in Preliminary examination will not be counted in final merit list.

There will be negative marking of one-fourth of the total marks for every wrong answer.
Physical Measurement Test (PMT) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Under this, candidates who wish to secure job of Sub-Inspector (UB) and Sub-Inspector (AB) in the West Bengal Police, will need to pass the physical standard test (mentioned in the eligibility section). They also need to perform “800 meters run in 3 minutes”. Candidates who will qualify the Physical Measurement Test will be called for the Physical Efficiency Test.
Final Combined Competitive Examination
Candidates who qualify the PMT & PET are then called for the Final Combined Competitive Examination, which consists of three papers – Paper I, Paper II & Paper III. Have a look at exam pattern of the Final Combined Competitive exam:

Personality Test
Candidates who get selected on the basis of merit after the declaration of Final Combined Competitive Examination results will be called for the Personality Test. The Minimum qualifying or passing marks for the Personality Test are 8 (Eight). Candidates who fail to score 8 marks will be disqualified for the Sub-Inspector post of West Bengal Police.

Training of Selected Candidates
Candidates, who are finally selected for their appointment as Sup-Inspector in West Bengal Police, will be required to undergo training as required from time to time. They need to pass the training from Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy or the Subsidiary Training Centre. Candidates who do not perform well during the training or are considered as unsuitable will be ultimately discharged by the authorities.
