A replay of the 2018 Stutsman County girls basketball championship game unfolded Saturday night at the Jamestown Civic Center.

In a battle between the Carrington Cardinals and the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder, the Cardinals flew away winners for a second straight year with a 63-40 victory over the Thunder.

"(MPB) is a great team," Carrington head coach Andy Braaten said of the championship matchup. "They have some really nice players."

Megan Moser took control for MPB. Moser shot for 12 points on the night, going 3 of 4 from the arc. The senior guard also rebounded five loose balls and recorded three of the team's five steals.

"We know that everything runs through Megan," Braaten said of the recent University of Jamestown volleyball commit. "She's been here for five years and is such a smart player, such an aggressive player and a good shooter. (MPB) is going to improve throughout the year because (MPB head coach) Cory Mack does a great job."

While Braaten predicted the Thunder to improve later in the season, the head coach for the Cards added he was pleased with how his team responded.

"We liked our defensive intensity throughout the night," Braaten said. "It was good to respond (after) Medina hit some shots. We came down and were a little more patient with the ball.

"We liked our balance and our bench play. Sydnie (Grager) and Tessa (Page) came in and hit some great shots in the second quarter."

Page knocked down three from the 3-point line. Grager converted 6 of 8 from the field and went 1 of 1 from the foul line. The junior guard tied senior Kiera Eli for the most points scored at 13. Eli also sank three 3s in the contest.

"We have some goals down the road but it's nice to get on the Civic Center floor," Braaten said "Our kids responded well tonight. It's a good win early in the year."
