LAFAYETTE — A car with a temporary license plate from Illinois that was following too closely, speeding and driving left of center ended up being pulled over on Interstate 65 about 10:10 p.m. Thursday.

Two of the three people inside the car went to jail on drug-related charges based on what police found, according to police reports.

Police booked Darrel Williams, 26, of the 2300 block of West 156th Place in Markham, Illinois, into the Tippecanoe County Jail on preliminary charges of felon carrying a handgun, carrying a handgun without a license, dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana.

Police booked Mercedes Green, 24, of the 15000 Chicago Road in Dolton, Illinois, on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine. Because Green lied to officers about who she was, she faces a preliminary charge of false informing. Additionally, Green is wanted on a fugitive warrant from Cook County, Illinois, for theft, according to police.

Williams and Green both remained incarcerated Friday in the Tippecanoe County Jail in lieu of bond.
