FRANKFORT, Ind. — Clinton County sheriff's deputies arrested Jail Officer Rc Joseph Smith on Wednesday on allegations that he had sex with a detainee, according to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

On Thursday, the Clinton County prosecutor charged Smith, 34, of Dayton, with sexual misconduct with a detainee, a Level 5 felony, and official misconduct, a Level 6 felony.

The inmate and Smith told investigators they engaged in a consensual sex act inside Smith's truck parked at a restaurant where the detainee works, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The inmate indicated the relationship had been going on for about two weeks, according to the affidavit.

Investigators also found text messages between Smith and the woman indicating the two might be involved in a sexual relationship, according to the affidavit.

Court records indicate he had his initial hearing on Thursday in Clinton Circuit Court. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 9.
