A NEWLY formed community group, Caithness Community Connections, has got off to an action-packed start with a range of activities aimed at people of all ages.
Messy plays in Staxigoe, Reiss, Wick and Lybster have been going down a storm with waiting lists for some sessions. Pop-up youth club sessions have been run in Staxigoe along with slime-making, and more than 250 Innocent smoothie hats have been sent to Age Scotland from the crocheters and knitters who have toured the east coast village halls and Tesco community room.
Thrumster now has a youth club run for primary-aged children every Wednesday. The sessions are always busy with more than 30 children registered.
Last week was a busy one for Caithness Community Connections in Lybster – over 100 lunches were provided in the village hall over three days, giving primary and secondary school pupils a chance to meet up during the holidays.
An Easter Egg hunt was held on Friday, attracting 40 young people and their parents or carers. The Easter Egg hunt was held in the Shelligoe Road swing park and as part of the preparations for the event, on Wednesday, local families came together and did a morning’s worth of litter-picking. So many people turned up that they were able to complete the swing park, Shelligoe Road area, the main road to the village hall and the community space beside the hall.
