South Milwaukee voters will no longer be casting ballots in public schools.

If you voted at Lakeview or Rawson elementary in South Milwaukee for past elections, your polling location has changed for the April 2 election.

The city and school district worked to relocate the polling locations from the schools in an effort to maintain security and safety of students, according to a release from City Clerk Jim Shelenske.

The District 2 polling location, formerly Lakeview Elementary, will now be in the Divine Mercy Gathering Room, 800 Marquette Ave.

The District 4 polling location, formerly Rawson Elementary, has been moved to the Grobschmidt Senior Center, 2424 15th Ave. The release suggested voters park on the north or northwest side of the senior center and enter through the west doors.

Signs will be posted to direct voters to the new polling locations for the next few elections at the former voting places. Signs will also be posted at the new locations to guide voters through the buildings to the polls.

Anyone with questions can contact Shelenske at 414-768-7499 or at shelenske@smwi.org.

Other area municipalities have passed similar measures already. Oak Creek moved polling locations out of schools in 2017. At the time, City Clerk Catherine Roeske said the move was due to feedback from the community.
