C-SPAN is coming to Milwaukee next week.

C-SPAN is coming to Milwaukee, but not because of Wisconsin's status as a battleground state. It's for our literature.

The national public affairs cable network is in the middle of "The C-SPAN Cities Tour," visiting cities around the country to record the history of Milwaukee and its "nonfiction literary life" for programs on its Book TV channel on C-SPAN2 and its American History TV outlet on C-SPAN3.

C-SPAN, working with Spectrum cable in Milwaukee, will record the Milwaukee segments April 21-25, interviewing local historians and nonfiction authors, and conduct educational and community outreach efforts. The stories are expected to air on the channels May 18-19, C-SPAN said in a statement Friday.

C-SPAN's visit includes a kickoff reception at the Milwaukee Public Library's Richard and Lucile Krug Rare Books Room at the Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Book TV (on C-SPAN2) is available on Spectrum channels 78, 360, 1360. American History TV (on C-SPAN3) is on Spectrum channels 361, 877, 1361.

C-SPAN's Cities Tour has been to Wisconsin before. It stopped in Green Bay and Madison in 2014.
