Police chase leads to car crash, killing bystander's unborn child

An unborn child carried by a 25-year-old Milwaukee woman was killed after a police chase lead to a car crash on Milwaukee’s north side Monday evening.

Around 5:54 p.m., Milwaukee police observed a reckless vehicle that was also wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident traveling in the 2700 block of North Atkinson Avenue in the Garden Homes neighborhood, according to a news release.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the car fled. After three minutes, the car collided with another vehicle with  the pregnant woman and three other occupants. The crash occurred in the 2700 block of West Highland Boulevard, police said. The suspect, a 40-year-old man, fled on foot but was soon arrested.

The 25-year-old woman was six months pregnant and is in stable condition, police said. A 56-year-old woman, a 26-year-old man and a 5-year-old child also sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
