The moon rises behind the Ambassador Hotel neon sign on Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee Dec. 3, 2017.

There won't be a long bus ride for the Wisconsin delegation to get to the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee.

The home state delegates have drawn the Ambassador Hotel as their headquarters during the convention, July 13-16.

The restored 1928 Art Deco style gem at 2308 W. Wisconsin Ave. is near the Marquette University campus.

It's just 1.8 miles to Fiserv Forum, the convention's main venue.

Rick Wiegand, owner of the Ambassador Hotel and the nearby Ambassador Inn, said: "It's an honor to have the Wisconsin delegation."

With the home state delegation, Wiegand and his staff certainly know what kind of food and drink to have on hand.

"I would say we'll have to have plenty of Wisconsin beer, brats, cheese. Everything Wisconsin is known for," he said.

Meanwhile, the Illinois delegation will be staying at the Milwaukee Marriott West in Waukesha, according to Chicago media reports.

For Illinois, the 20-minute drive to Fiserv Forum isn't bad. It could have been a lot longer.

Some delegations will be housed as far away as Rosemont, Illinois, near O'Hare International Airport.

For instance, Florida was assigned to the Hilton Chicago O'Hare Airport hotel, a state party spokesperson said.

The Iowa delegation will be closer, staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Airport.

Meanwhile, New Hampshire got good news, with a slot at the DoubleTree by Hilton downtown, within walking distance of Fiserv Forum and the Wisconsin Center.

"This will be my 11th national convention and this is the best location we've ever had," said Raymond Buckley, chair of New Hampshire's Democratic Party.
