7th annual Women in Business Conference welcomes Major General Joanne Sheridan
The annual Women in Business Conference began Thursday in Downtown Alexandria, introducing women to a Cenla native who made history.
Keynote speaker, Major General Joanne Sheridan, became the first female two-star general in the Louisiana National Guard in 2017.
Major General Sheridan is now retired after serving more than 30 years in the military, but said her journey wasn't easy.
She shared her story at the 7th Annual Women in Business Conference hosted by the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.
The conference is a two-day event including dynamic guest speakers, informative breakout sessions, and opportunities to make business connections.
Major General Sheridan said she hopes sharing her story influences everyone who hears it.
"Just not to be afraid, to try new things, to step outside of the box,” Major General Sheridan said. “Not necessarily follow the traditional lines that society sets for women, that you're strong, you're resilient, and you should be able to accomplish anything that you want to accomplish."
Friday’s guest speakers are Governor John Bel Edwards and Congressman Ralph Abraham.
