1 dead, 1 injured in shooting in East St. Paul

Investigators are focusing on a silver Nissan Altima.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Police have identified the man killed in a shooting on the east side of St. Paul Sunday night.

Another man is in the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Officers were on patrol in the area when they heard multiple gun shots just after 9 p.m. They immediately responded to the intersection of Payne Avenue and Jessamine Avenue East.

The two victims were found in a vehicle and transported to Regions Hospital. One of the victims, 19-year-old Taishawn Smith, did not survive.

St. Paul Police Department's Forensic Services Unit spent hours on the scene, with homicide Investigators canvassing the area and looking for witnesses. They spent a great deal of time focusing on a silver Nissan Altima. So far, however, no arrests have been confirmed. 

This is the 15th homicide in St. Paul this year.
