Residents in Ville Platte and other communities in north Acadiana are waking up to flooded streets thanks to heavy downpours related to Barry.

On Monday, July 15 heavy rains battered the northern portions of Acadiana as Barry, now a tropical depression, continued to move out of Louisiana. Rain bands continued to stream in from the Gulf bringing strong winds and heavy rains.

Flash Flood warnings were issued for Evangeline and other Acadiana parishes early on Monday morning. A tornado warning was also issued for Avoyelles Parish.

The Evangeline Parish 911/OEP is alerting residents to flooding in the parish. Officials say that motorists should avoid driving on Hwy 106 between Hwy 167 and I-49. Roads in Ville Platte are also flooded and drivers are advised to avoid LaSalle Street and Main Street.
