LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Heavy rain fell on parts of the KCBD viewing area late yesterday and this morning. There's been some flooding of low areas and intersections. Allow extra drive time and drive to conditions. Slow down and approach intersections with caution. Storms and showers are possible through the day but will be more limited in coverage.

The cold front mentioned yesterday has and is providing a focus for storm and shower development, as expected. While the best chance of widespread storms and rain across the viewing area is now past, a chance of storms and rain continues through this evening.

Drier and warmer weather resumes this weekend and continue through at least mid-week. Our next potential South Plains rain-maker arrives late in the week. Just ahead of that system highs in the 90s are likely while just behind it highs in the 80s are anticipated. Get more information and watch for updates in the forecast section here on our Weather Page.

Storms late yesterday and overnight produced some locally heavy rainfall in the KCBD viewing area, even in some parts of Lubbock County. At the Lubbock Airport, however, the total was 0.25 inch. Lubbock's total for September so far is 0.51", which is 0.52" below the month-to-date average. Total precipitation for 2019 so far is 16.10", which is 2.00" above the average year-to-date of 14.10". Last year at this time the total was 6.93".

The accompanying video includes the 24 hour rainfall totals greater than one inch via the TTU Mesonet, estimated 24 hour rain totals for the viewing area, our RainCast for today and tomorrow, our RainCast for Saturday in Tucson, our Red Raider GameCast, and time-lapses of yesterday’s sunset and this morning’s rain (end of video, after the extended forecast).
