Des Moines residents are again eligible to get free trees seedlings this year.The city of Des Moines' Forestry Division is offering the trees to all city residents. The annual Tiny Trees program has distributed 12,000 free trees since it launched in 2016.The program provides up to five tiny trees for planting on private property. This year, residents have eight available species to choose from: bur oak, Kentucky coffeetree, black walnut, serviceberry, redbud, chokecherry, white pine and bald cypress.Each tree is approximately 16 inches (40.64 centimeters) to 24 inches (60.96 centimeters) tall and includes planting and care instructions. All orders must be picked up April 27. The trees may be ordered online at tinytrees.dmgov.org or by calling 515-283-4950.
