City of West Des Moines cancels Independence Day activities
The City of West Des Moines announced Wednesday that its Independence Day parade fireworks display and community band concert are canceled. The parade was scheduled for July 3, while the fireworks and concert were planned for July 4.According to the news release, a limited fireworks display will be held on July 4 on the city/school campus near West Des Moines City Hall.The news release went on to say that the Valley View and Holiday Park aquatic centers will remain closed Saturday, but city staff is studying the possibility of offering swim lessons in July with social distancing measures.The city said residents who purchased aquatic center season passes or who registered for aquatics programs will receive a full refund.
