Des Moines Farmers' Market to open drive-thru market Saturday
The Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market is reopening in "bite-size" form.
"The 2020 farmer's market season has been a year of pivots," said Kelly Foss, the director.
Foss said starting 8 a.m. Saturday people will once again be able to physically attend to the Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market. Up until now, the event has been completely virtual.
It will still be much different than people are used to, but about 20 vendors will set up every Saturday morning in the Iowa State Capitol complex parking lot.
People will have to stay in their cars, but can drive through the small market and pick out what they want.
You can also order online and pick it up as well as pay with cash or card.
Vendors will be wearing masks and be taking other safety measures.
"We found that this drive-thru model was the best way we could move forward in a way that would be safe and hopefully keep it open the rest of the season," Foss said.
She said while it's been a tough year for everyone, vendors have been hit especially hard.
"It's just so important for us to get the market open in some way so that we can help our farmers connect with customers," Foss said.
