MARCUS IF THIS IS THE ONLY HEAT : FACING DES MOINES TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS FOR THE NEXT 9 MONTHS THIS SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE PROBLEM FREE BUT CHANGES HAPPENING THIS YEAR FOR THESE CENTRAL CAMPUS HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS AND HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS ACROSS THE DISTRICT WILL BE FAR FROM ROUTINE. ONE CHANGE, BLOCK SCHEDULING HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. THERE IS A LOT OF ANTICIPATION AROUND THAT. MARCUS INSTEAD OF STUDENTS : HAVING A CLASS FOR 90 MINUTES TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK CLASS TIME IS CUT TO :45 MINUTES AND WILL MEET AT LEAST 4 DAYS A WEEK A CHANGE PROMPTED BY A DESIRE TO SEE TEST SCORES RISE. >> HOPING STUDENTS ENGAGEMENT AND INCREASED CONTACT WITH STUDENTS IN SCHOOL WILL RESULT IN HIGHER ACHEIVEMENT LEVELS. MARCUS SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS : NEW INVOLVES BUSES. THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ADOPTED A RULE REQUIRING SEAT BELTS ON NEW SCHOOL BUSSES DES MOINES SCHOOL ALREADY HAS 26 BUSSES EQUIPPED WITH SEAT BELTS BUT THE QUESTION IS WILL THERE BE ENOUGH DRIVERS BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE DISTRICTS BUSSES. >> TRANSPORTATION IN DES MOINES SCHOOLS IN CERTAINLY A CHALLENGE, WE DO NEED MORE BUS DRIVERS. IN A PLACE LIKE CENTRAL CAMPUS WE ARE BUSSING KIDS IN FROM ALL OVER THE DISTRICT TO COME HERE, BUT AGAIN WE ARE PUBLIC

On Monday, teachers of Des Moines' public schools headed back to school.Students begin the 2019-2020 school year on Friday, marking the start of significant changes that will impact the school district.Early dismissal on Wednesday is a thing of the past for the new school year.Des Moines elementary schools will start at 7:45 a.m. Des Moines Public Schools also eliminated block scheduling for the new school year.Instead 90-minute classes held two or three times a week, classes will last 45 minutes and will meet at least four days a week.The Iowa Department of Education adopted a rule requiring seat belts on new school buses.Des Moines Public Schools has 26 buses already equipped with seat belts.
