in central Iowa - for the past 18 years! KCCI's Marcus McIntosh takes us along the route of the I-M-T Des Moines Marathon. A CRISP SUNDAY MORNING DID NOT STOP SOME 8-THOUSAND PEOPLE FROM 10 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND 47 DIFFERENT STATES FROM TAKING PART IN THE IMT DES MOINES MARATHON... ======== ATHLETES READY... ======== But first lets check out some of the work done in the early morning hours to prepare for the marathon...a crew was out making sure things were clean... ============== === WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME IN HERE AND SAY DES MOINES IS A CLEAN AND SAFE CITY AND HAVING IT CLEAN BRINGS A GOOD MENTAL PICTURE OF DOWNTOWN... =========== Security is on hand to keep the runners safe...so when the darkness gives way to daylight -- security is hoping to fade into the background... ============== == WE WANT TO BE LOW KEY PROVIDE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LET THE RACE BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY NOT US... ====== That brings us back to the Des Moines Marathon.. .that started at third and court... ====== READY...GO.... ======= Runners appreciated the work put in on their behalf before the race started. ============= THE COURSE IS SO CLEAN AND PEOPLE LINED THE COURSE THE ENTIRE WAY TO MAKE IT SO MUCH FUN FOR THE RUNNERS. ============ ====== A course that took runners through Drake Stadium and onto the popular waterworks park. Some runners did not have winning on their mind, others ran the IMT des Moines marathon with an agenda.. ====== I AM ACTUALLY DOING THE MARATHON WITH MY BROTHER...ITS A GOOD COURSE TO QUALIFY FOR BOSTON...THAT IS WHAT I AM SHOOTING FOR... ==== I JUST LIKE GETTING OUT AND RUNNING...I LOVE THE RUNNING COMMUNITY...I LOVE HAVING SOMETHING TO REAIN FRO AND WORK HARD FOR AND ENJOY THE AFTER PARTY AFTER THE RACE... ============ Whether you returned to 3rd in court in first OR second place or toward the end of the pack....it was all love... A fringe benefit of running the IMT Des Moines Marathon. In Des Moines...Marcus mcIntosh KCCI 8 news Iowa's news leader. Two police officers ran the marathon in full uniform today - for a special reason. Officer Sean Dodge of Modesto, California and Keegan Hughes of Blue Springs, Missouri ran in honor of fallen Des Moines police Sergeant Tony Beminio. Sgt. Bemino and Urbandale police officer Justin Martin were shot and killed on November 2nd, 2016.

Officers took to the streets Sunday to run the Des Moines Marathon in memory of their fallen comrade. Sgt. Paul Parizek with Des Moines police tweeted a photo of Officers Sean Dodge of Modesto, California PD, and Keegan Hughes of Blue Springs, Missouri PD. "The two dudes on the left are running the , in full uniform, in honor of Tony," Parizek said. "The two dudes on the right represent a grateful organization and community." Sgt. Anthony "Tony" Bemino and Officer Justin Martin were shot and killed in a Nov. 2, 2016 ambush.
