Police arrest Des Moines man wanted for attempted murder
After a year on the run, a Des Moines man is in police custody Thursday night, charged with attempted murder.
Police caught 27-year-old Ceeron Williams in Milwaukee, during a routine stop. Authorities ran his information and realized he was wanted for attempted murder in Des Moines.
The charge dates back to a shooting from January of last year.
Des Moines police say Williams shot a man outside the Kum & Go at 31st Street and University Avenue near Drake University. The shooting seriously injured the victim, who has since recovered.
Police call the shooting deliberate and intentional, and say surveillance video proves Williams committed the crime.
Shortly after the shooting, Williams left town and has been on the run ever since.
Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek said Williams is a violent criminal and that it's a relief to have him behind bars now.
"Anytime we can take somebody with this propensity of violence out of the equation," Parizek said, "it's definitely good for the community. It's good for the police department, and it also brings a sense of relief to the victims and the victim's family."
Williams faces a list of charges, including drug possession and being a felon in control of a firearm.
He was taken to the Polk County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
