Iowans woke up to a bittersweet Thursday on what would have marked the first day of the Iowa State Fair.The Iowa State Fair Board voted to postpone the fair until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Iowa State Fair CEO Gary Slater said organizers are getting creative to bring pieces of the fair back, including junior livestock shows spread out over multiple weekends."I know that Iowans are missing the Iowa State Fair,” Slater said. “A lot of people are sad because this is their annual family vacation, and some of the things that they normally do are on hold. But we are here, and we are planning for the fair next year. We'd like your support."While may fair traditions are on hold until next year, Iowans can still recreate some beloved fair fun.Beginning Thursday, KCCI’s “Flavor of the Fair” will feature fair-themed activities and stories for Iowans to join in at home.For day one, KCCI asks Iowans to make their very best DIY Butter Cow.
