UPDATE: 3 arrested in Des Moines shooting
Des Moines police have announced three arrests in a weekend shooting.
The shooting occurred at about 5 p.m. Sunday near 31st and Clark streets.
According to police, an officer in the area witnessed gunfire from a vehicle and attempted to stop it. Police said the vehicle fled and a short pursuit began, ending in the 1600 block of Forest Avenue.
Police said 18-year-old Braden Schaffer was found in the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital and remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery Sunday night.
According to police, three people were arrested in the incident.
Police said 21-year-old Raekwon Malik Patton is charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, going armed with intent, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Austin James Mallory, 18, is charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Tayronce Devon Denton, 24, is charged with Possession of a controlled substance. Police said he also had an existing parole violation warrant.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
