Vice President Mike Pence to visit Des Moines Friday
The Office of the Vice President confirmed Tuesday that Vice President Mike Pence will visit Des Moines this week.According to a news release, Pence will come to Des Moines to meet with and encourage faith leaders to reopen following social distancing guidelines.Pence will also hold a roundtable at Hy-Vee Headquarters to meet with agriculture and food supply leaders before returning to Washington, D.C.The announcement comes hours after Pence said the national Coronavirus Task Force is keeping a close eye on Des Moines. According to Bloomberg News, he said the country has slowed the spread but not every U.S. community is "out of the woods."Pence added that officials are watching Chicago and Des Moines.Gov. Kim Reynolds said Tuesday said she will travel to Washington, D.C. this week to discuss Iowa’s COVID-19 outbreak. Reynolds said she will use a private plane for the last-minute trip, which will be paid for by her campaign.
