BRIAN: TERRIBLE SCENE. WESTBOUND 80 BACKED UP FOR MILES DUE TO A FATAL BIG RIG VERSUS MOTORCYCLE CRASH. ALL REPORTED AROUND 4:30 THIS MORNING, COMING IN AS A MOTORCYCLE CRASH. UNFORTUNATELY THAT MOTORCYCLE RIDER WAS KILLED IN THE COLLISION. BUT CORNER IS ON SCENE WHILE CHP INVESTIGATES THE CRASH WHILE ALL THAT IS ONGOING TRAFFIC FROM ANTELOPE ROAD EASTWARD IS BACKED UP FOR MILES. JUST PAST ANTELOPE ROAD ON THE WESTBOUND SIDE OF INTERSTATE 80. SO IF YOU ARE EAST OF ANTELOPE ROAD HEADING WEST AVOID INTERSTATE 80. ALL LANES INTERSTATE 80 ARE BEING DIVERTED TO ONE LANE. Deadly crash snarls I-80 traffic in Sacramento County
A deadly crash on Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue caused a major backup Tuesday morning.A motorcyclist, a 38-year-old man from Los Angeles, collided with the back of a Ford Fusion around 4:30 a.m, the California Highway Patrol said. The man and his motorcycle slid on the roadway and came to a rest directly in the path of a big rig. The driver of the big rig was unable to avoid hitting the motorcyclist, CHP said. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, authorities said. The drivers of the big rig and Ford Fusion were not hurt and remained on scene after the crash. Traffic was diverted near the crash scene, but I-80 fully reopened before 6:30 a.m. At one point, the traffic backup stretched for miles.It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. No other details have been released.
