Here's what's closed and what's coming to Sacramento's business scene
Sacramento's business scene is evolving with a slew of shops, bars and restaurants either closing their doors for good or making the city their home.
While some of the businesses closing were decadeslong icons to the city, the openings have created opportunities for new restaurants and shops to settle in.
Here's a look at who's leaving and coming in Sacramento:
Businesses closed/closing
Jim-Denny's: The restaurant posted on Facebook that it will close at the end of January after 85 years of service.
Fat City Bar and Cafe: The Old Sacramento restaurant served its last meal in November after 43 years of service.
Original Perry's: The owners closed the doors to the south Sacramento restaurant after serving meals for 51 years. The restaurant may reopen under new ownership.
Dimple Records: The iconic record and CD stores in Roseville, Folsom and the Arden areas had their last spins in September after 45 years of catering to music enthusiasts.
Hot Italian: The last pies were served in late December for Hot Italian, which was located in downtown Sacramento.
Mother: After a seven-year run, the owners of the award-winning vegetarian restaurant announced on Facebook that it will close. Some of the dishes will live on at the Empress Tavern, located by the Crest Theatre.
Cafe Rolle: The French sandwich shop closed its doors after 17 years in East Sacramento. Chef William Rolle said he decided to retire.
The Press Bistro: The midtown Sacramento restaurant closed its doors for good New Year's Eve. It first opened in 2010.
Cafe Marika: Longtime customers bid farewell to the Hungarian restaurant in midtown Sacramento on Jan. 2 after 30 years of service.
An Honest Pie: Founded in Grass Valley, the owners would serve patrons across the greater Sacramento area in their Piemobile. Operations end at the end of January after more than seven years.
Food Source: The stores on Mack Road and Broadway are not renewing their leases due to a decline in sales. The Mack Road location closes in March 14 and the Broadway store closes in March 28.
Businesses opening/recently opened
Taco Bell Cantina: Sacramento's first cantina-style Taco Bell restaurant will open in downtown Sacramento on K Street. The company had originally planned for a Fall 2019 opening, but it is now unclear when the new opening date is.
Kodaiko Ramen & Bar: An underground ramen spot on Sacramento's K Street in downtown is the concept behind this restaurant. It opened in August.
London Sacramento: This nightclub opened in downtown Sacramento in late 2019.
Poke Ichii: Another new addition came to the Downtown Commons area in Sacramento with the opening of this build-your-own poke bowl restaurant. The business opened Aug. 23.
Solomon's Delicatessen: Named after the late Russ Solomon, founder of Tower Records, this downtown restaurant opened July 2019 as part of a major development project.
Bawk: This restaurant specializing in fried chicken plates opened in Sacramento's R Street Corridor in late 2019.
Flatstick Pub: This miniature golf and bar combination opened in Fall 2019 in Sacramento's DOCO area, near the Golden 1 Center.
Mutts and Mugs: The concept behind this bar and dog park combination is just that: Drink a pint in a space where your dog can also play. It is unclear when this business will open.
Yume Gelato: A husband and wife opened this gelato shop in August in the East Sacramento neighborhood.
Fixins Soul Kitchen: Southern comfort food is the focus of this restaurant, which opened in August in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood.
Polanco Cantina: Mexican restaurant Polanco Cantina overlooks the DOCO plaza from the second floor. The business opened in October.
Culinerdy Kitchen: Fans of Culinerdy's mobile setup, which provided comfort food and comic culture, can now visit the brick-and-mortar restaurant that opened in June in Sacramento's Alkali Flat neighborhood.
Opa! Opa!: This popular East Sacramento Greek restaurant announced it is moving. It is expected to open at their new midtown Sacramento location toward the end of February or mid-March.
Raley's Supermarkets: Three new locations will open at Land Park, Rancho Murieta and Truckee sometime this year.
Saigon Alley: Shareable Vietnamese-inspired cuisine in an urban setting is the theme of the DOCO's latest addition, which opened this January.
