MLS team owners meeting in LA to discuss Sacramento expansion
Sacramento may be one step closer to finding out if a bid for a Major League Soccer team will be granted by league officials.
MLS team owners who make up the league's board of governors are in Los Angeles on Thursday for their annual spring meeting, and on the agenda is which city will take on the league's 28th expansion team.
Sacramento and St. Louis, Missouri, are said to be the two front-runners in the competition.
Sacramento has seen big success with its minor league soccer team. Sacramento Republic FC, in the USL Championship league, has been trying to get MLS soccer into the capital city for some time.

Sacramento's bid got a lot stronger earlier this month, when Republic owners released renderings of a new stadium site at the downtown railyards along the Old Sacramento riverfront. And two weeks ago, the Sacramento City Council agreed to a $33 million incentive package to help get that stadium built.
The latest stadium news is rumored to have moved Sacramento ahead of St. Louis, but there are still a lot of factors the league has to consider.
The league is expected to release more information in the coming weeks.
