Self-driving shuttle Olli debuts at Sacramento State
What some are calling the future of mass transportation will make its debut at Sacramento State on Thursday.
The self-driving electric shuttle known as Olli, will begin making trips around the Sac State campus Thursday afternoon.
Olli, a box shuttle with a glass top, is the world's first partially 3D-printed, autonomous, electric vehicle that can hold up to 12 passengers. Olli has a maximum range of 40 miles, or 25 miles with a full load of passengers.
Two Olli shuttles will open up to passengers for at least three months of the spring semester. The use of Olli comes after Sac State won the Olli Fleet Challenge for its push to use alternative mobility methods around campus.
The Ollies are fully self-driving, but the ones at Sacramento State will operate with a human steward on board.
The two Ollies will shuttle a 1.2-mile route on Moraga Way in the heart of the campus, between Amador Hall and Bay Laurel Way.
Olli will officially be ready to ride Thursday afternoon after a debut celebration that's expected to wrap up around 4 p.m.
