Sacramento business owners demand city leaders do more over protests, looting
GOOD MORNING. LETICIA: GOOD MORNING. NONE OF BUSINESSES -- A LOT OF BUSINESSES ARE MAD. THIS PHARMACY HAS BEEN HERE 90 YEARS AND NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THE BROKEN WINDOWS AND THE GLASS WAS CLEANED UP. THE OWNERS ARE CALLING FOR THE NATIONAL GUARD TO MOVE IN AND A CURFEW TO BE UNFERMENTED. THEY SAY THEY HAVE BEEN LOOTED TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW AND ARE FED UP WITH THE LACK OF RESPONSE. SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS 10 TEENAGERS BREAKING IN LAST NIGHT AND CAUSING ALL OF THIS DAMAGE. PRESCRIPTION PILLS WERE STOLEN AS WELL AS OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICATIONS. STORES IN OLD SACRAMENTO WERE ALSO VANDALIZED AND LOOTED DURING A VIOLENT NIGHT OF PROTESTS. BUSINESSES WERE SHUT DOWN FOR TWO MONTHS AND JUST REOPENED A WEEK AGO. THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH GRAFFITI, BROKEN GLASS, AND STOLEN MERCHANDISE. SOME STORE OWNERS SAID THE CASH REGISTERS WERE STOLEN, BUT MORE THAN THAT THEY FEEL LIKE THEIR DREAMS ARE BEING RIPPED AWAY. >> WE NEED HELP. THE CITY NEEDS TO RECOVER FROM THIS AND WE CANNOT RECOVER WITHOUT ORDER. LETICIA: WHAT DO THEY NEED TO DO? >> THEY NEED TO BE PRESENT, PEOPLE NICE TO BE HOME, THERE NEEDS TO BE A CURFEW, THERE NEEDS TO BE MILITARY AND POLICE PRESENCE. >> I DO NOT THINK IT IS GOING TO BE EASY TO PUT BACK TOGETHER. THIS IS 30 YEARS OF MY TEARS, SWEAT, AND BLOOD. THIS STORE -- I HAVE BEEN IN THIS LOCATION 30 YEARS. I HAVE SPENT MY LIFE YOUR BUILDING THIS THING. LETICIA: BACK TO LIVE IN SACRAMENTO PUCCI’S IS WAITING FOR POLICE SO THEY CAN HAND OVER VERY CLEAR IMAGES OF THE 10 PEOPLE THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING IN. THEY HOPE POLICE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE SOME ARRESTS SOON

Business owners across the Sacramento area are asking for police and city leaders to do more to protect them from protests and looters. Owners of Pucci’s Pharmacy say they were looted for two days in a row, and surveillance video shows 10 teenagers breaking in and vandalizing the store. “We need help the city needs to recover from this. And we can't recover without order. They need to be present. People need to be home. There needs to be a curfew, there needs to be military, police presence on the street,” said Clint Hopkins with Pucci’s Pharmacy. Several stores in Old Sacramento were also targets of looting. “You think it’s going to be easy to put it back together? This is 30 years of my tears, sweat and blood. This store. I've been in this location for 30 years. I've spent my life here building this thing,” said business owner Rukhsana Haq. Get the full story in the video above.
