Iowa reports more than 50,000 cases of COVID-19

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - As of 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, the Iowa Department of Public Health said that 465 additional cases of COVID-19 were reported during the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s total since the pandemic began to 50,167.

38,548 people are considered recovered from the disease, an increase of 672. Five additional deaths had been reported since Wednesday morning’s total, increasing the overall death toll in the state to 954. 261 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, which down compared to 24 hours ago when the number was 257. 88 of those patients are in intensive care units, compared to 76 in the previous period. 25 patients are using ventilators.

An additional 6,953 tests were reported by public and private labs since Thursday morning. The positivity rate during that reporting period was 6.7%, lower than the previous 24 hours’ rate of 10.9%. A total of 537,372 tests have been processed since the start of the pandemic.
