The bay had a harvest over 2 million for the third day in a row. Nushagak had the biggest haul yesterday, and Egegik’s streak of big catches continues with another haul of over 800,000 fish. Ugashik’s total run is still 3 million below its season forecast, with just a couple of weeks left in the season. And escapements on the Kvichak and Alagnak Rivers are far below their goal curves, but the runs are starting to pick up.
KDLG talked with westside management biologist Tim Sands this morning about where things stand at this point in the summer. He said we’ve most likely reached the peak for the Nushagak run this season. Based on his analysis of numbers at Port Moller and how far we are into the season, he thinks we’ve already seen 2019’s largest single-day harvest, and numbers will gradually decrease across this upcoming back half of the season.
Across the bay, the total harvest is now 21.59 million, with daily leaps toward meeting its preseason forecast of 26.1 million. The total run is now at 25.5 million, more than halfway to the forecasted 40.2 million.
Hera are the latest Port Moller stock composition numbers from July 4 through 6.
29% were headed to Egegik
21% were bound for the Kvichak
21% for the Wood
13% for Naknek
Almost 10% for Nushagak
2.5% for Togiak.
2% were going to the Kuskokwim
And just 1% were going to the North Peninsula.
