A majority of the energy produced in South Dakota comes from renewable resources.
That wasn’t the case 10 years ago.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration says coal-fired power plants supplied 52 percent of the state’s energy in 2008. By 2018, coal-fired power plants supplied 21 percent.
So where is the energy coming from?
Last year, 70-percent of electricity generated in South Dakota was renewable. Nearly half was hydroelectric. Nearly a fourth was wind energy.
