Something you’ll notice more of on the streets — snow and ice.
But it’s not just creating a hazard on the roads.

While the snow has stopped, you can still find slippery sidewalks around Sioux Falls. Homeowner Cynthia Leedom, knows what it’s like to deal with it.

“I checked for any ice or anything that would be happening on the sidewalk. And I didn’t feel that It was icy and I stepped forward and hit a patch of ice and I, pretty much, landed on my backside,” Cynthia Leedom said.

The city of Sioux Falls is sending out a reminder to keep your sidewalks clear of snow and ice.

“We want to make sure they’re safe and passable for our citizens. A lot of people rely on the sidewalks to get around, and this was kind of a unique event we had this past weekend, with the rain than a little bit of snow; not as much snow as they were forecasting but that layer of ice we’ve had on the sidewalk we’ve had several complaints and it has proven to be very dangerous.” Matt Tobias said.

After shoveling off your driveway and sidewalk, you may feel like you’re in the clear. But what’s even more clear is how cautious we need to be when walking outside.

“I want to say the best thing that works out there is ice melt. I know I did stop at a hardware store last night and we are in a little bit of a shortage of ice melt, but I was told that we’ll have more shipments coming in in the later part of the week.” Tobias said.

Leedom also has this piece of advice — watch where you step.

“Make sure you know what is underneath the snow, even though it was visible, I didn’t turn the porch light on, I didn’t expect it to be, It wasn’t just ice, it was extremely icy,” Leedom said.
