SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From a cotton candy company to a brewery, several new businesses will soon open near Falls Park.

They’re going in The Cascade, a $43 million mixed-use project that is under construction.

KELOLAND News has new details on the development that will change the look leading up to the city’s namesake.

A company that sells just cotton candy is coming to uptown Sioux Falls.

“We have more than 18 different flavors, including sassy apple, mint, and lime,” Candy Cloud Factory Co-owner Edward Clark said.

The business has a Mitchell store, and this summer it will be opening a second location at The Cascade.

“It’s a fun exciting place that people want to bring their kids, their grandkids,” Clark said.

In addition to the cotton candy businesses, several other businesses have also spoken for space at The Cascade, including a brewery.

“We have a couple other things that are really right on the cusp of being announced that we’re really excited about,” Lloyd Companies Executive Vice President of Development Jake Quasney said.

Those retailers will be located on 20,000 square feet of space on the first floor. The other levels will have apartments. The spaces range from $865 per month to more than $3500. More than 50 of the 128 apartments are already leased.

“It really does have almost a resort style living with the retail spaces downstairs, the pool, the courtyard, and everything we’re going to have going on down there,” Quasney said.

A resort-like atmosphere that Clark thinks will hit a sweet spot with his customers.

“It’s brand new. It fits the theme. We want our shop to be fun and exciting. That’s what this building offers,” Clark said.

The first residents will start moving into The Cascade July 1.

Some businesses will also open around that time.

The project also includes a second building, which is under construction.

When that’s finished early next year, there will be around 200 apartments total.

You can get a first look inside a finished apartment unit Monday night on KELOLAND News and hear more details about the cotton candy business.
