Health care organizations are investing more in Sioux Falls’ west side.
In fact, Sanford opened a new clinic on Monday that’s on the far edge of the city.
Here’s a look inside Sanford’s newest clinic, which is opening near Ellis Road and West 32nd Street.
Inside you’ll find a modern, open layout at the entrance, along with charging stations for phones and self check-ins.
“Sioux Falls is really growing on the west side. We want to be the health care facility for the west side of Sioux Falls. There’s a need out here,” Sanford Family Medicine Dr. Brad Palmer said.
This will be Sanford’s only clinic west of the interstate. Doctors, such as Palmer, will be moving from the much smaller, current clinic at 41st Street and Sertoma Avenue to here.
“We have family medicine, acute care, pediatrics, allergy and women’s,” Palmer said.
Sanford isn’t the only health care organization investing in the city’s west side.
Encompass Health Corporation just announced it’s building its first South Dakota location near the Avera Heart Hospital, and Avera is building its second main campus near 69th Street and Louise Avenue.
“We looked at the population for the west side. It was really an area we saw growing. There are a lot of new single-family homes,” President and CEO of Avera-McKennan David Flicek said.
Next fall, a surgical hospital will open at Avera on Louise, along with an addiction care center and a human performance center.
Two years ago, Avera also opened the state’s first free-standing hospital just west of the interstate near Lake Lorraine.
“The northwest corner where that new school is going will be another opportunity for growth in this community,” Flicek said.
In fact, Flicek says Avera owns five acres near the planned new high school. That means this likely won’t be the end of medical milestones with the west side’s momentum.
“If you did the population just west of the interstate, it’s the third biggest city in the state,” Palmer said.
